privacy policy

We collect only what we need to make the app work for you. We never sell your data. We never share it for advertising. Your journal entries are yours — we don't read them, analyze them for marketing, or share them with anyone. You can export or delete everything at any time.

When you use The Good Part, we store the following in your account:

• Account info — your email address, display name, and vibe preference
• Mood check-ins — which mood you selected each day
• Habit logs — which habits you checked off and any custom habits you created
• Journal entries — your responses to prompts and free writes
• Spark collection — moments you've starred or saved
• Highlight reels — summaries from guided reflections
• Mission logs — main character moves you've completed
• AI-generated content — personalized affirmations and moves generated for you, cached to reduce repeat API calls

We also store your timezone (auto-detected from your browser) to show you the right date-based content.

Your data is used exclusively to provide you with the app experience:

• Showing your mood history, habit streaks, and journal entries back to you
• Generating personalized AI content matched to your mood and vibe
• Populating your spark collection and highlight reels
• Improving the app based on aggregate, anonymized usage patterns

We never sell your data. We never share it with advertisers. We never use your journal content for training AI models.

We use the following services to run the app:

• Supabase (database and authentication) — stores your account data and content. Hosted in the US. Their privacy policy
• PostHog (analytics) — tracks anonymized usage patterns like which features are used and how often. Only active if you consent. No personal data or journal content is ever sent to PostHog. Their privacy policy
• Sentry (error monitoring) — captures technical errors to help us fix bugs. We strip personally identifiable information and never send journal content to Sentry. Their privacy policy
• Anthropic Claude (AI content generation) — generates personalized affirmations, moves, and pep talks. Your mood and vibe are sent to generate relevant content. Journal entries are never sent to Anthropic. Anthropic does not store or use the generated content. Their privacy policy
• Resend (transactional email) — sends verification and password reset emails. Only your email address is shared. Their privacy policy
• Unsplash (photos) — provides wallpaper backgrounds. No user data is shared with Unsplash.
• Vercel (hosting) — serves the app. Standard web server logs (IP address, user agent) are collected automatically and retained briefly. Their privacy policy

• Authentication cookies — Supabase sets cookies to keep you logged in. These are essential and cannot be disabled.
• Analytics cookies — PostHog uses cookies to track anonymous usage patterns. These are only set if you consent via the banner shown on your first visit.
• Local storage— we store your consent preference, UI state (like recently seen affirmations), and cached AI content in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device.

You have the right to:

• Access your data — download everything we store about you from the account page
• Delete your data — permanently delete your account and all associated data from the account page
• Export your data — download a complete copy of your data in JSON format (data portability)
• Opt out of analytics — decline analytics cookies, or clear your browser cookies at any time
• Rectification — update your name, vibe, and other profile information from the account page
• Restrict processing — contact us to request restrictions on how we use your data

These rights apply under GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), and similar privacy laws. We respond to all data requests within 30 days.

We do not sell your personal information. Under CCPA, you have the right to know this. We have never sold user data and never will.

Your data is stored for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all of your data is permanently removed from our database. This includes your profile, journal entries, mood logs, habit logs, spark collection, highlight reels, and all other account data.

Anonymized, aggregate analytics data (e.g., "40% of users checked in as 'pretty good' today") may be retained after account deletion, but this data cannot be linked back to you.

The Good Part is not directed at children under 13. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at hello@thegoodpart.life.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy. For significant changes, we'll make reasonable efforts to notify you (like a banner in the app).
